I took a short flight back home today after visiting my cousin. About an hour into the flight, the pilot’s voice came over the intercom: ‘We’re about to begin our descent.’ I looked out the window and could already see the city lights below. There’s something about that moment that always makes me feel a mix of relief and a little sadness. The trip was short but really refreshing. I can’t wait to unpack and sleep in my own bed tonight.

오늘 사촌을 만나고 집으로 돌아오는 짧은 비행기를 탔다. 비행한 지 약 한 시간쯤 됐을 때, 기장의 목소리가 기내 방송으로 들려왔다. ‘곧 하강을 시작하겠습니다.’ 창문 밖을 내다보니 이미 아래로 도시의 불빛들이 보였다. 그 순간은 언제나 안도감과 약간의 아쉬움이 뒤섞인 묘한 기분이 든다. 여행은 짧았지만 정말 기분이 새로워졌다. 오늘 밤 짐을 풀고 내 침대에서 자는 게 정말 기대된다.
