I went for a walk near the pond this morning and spotted something I’d never seen before. A small, dark bird swooped low over the water, catching insects mid-air. I took out my phone and looked it up — it was a Purple Martin. I had no idea these birds even existed before today. Watching it glide so effortlessly made me want to learn more about local wildlife.

오늘 아침 연못 근처를 산책하다가 전에 한 번도 본 적 없는 무언가를 발견했다. 작고 어두운 색의 새 한 마리가 물 위를 낮게 날며 공중에서 곤충을 잡고 있었다. 휴대폰을 꺼내 검색해 봤더니 퍼플 마틴이라는 새였다. 오늘 전까지는 이런 새가 있는지조차 몰랐다. 그 새가 그렇게 힘들이지 않고 미끄러지듯 나는 모습을 보며, 주변 야생 동물에 대해 더 알고 싶어졌다.
