Today I decided to check out an English conversation club near my house. I was pretty nervous walking in because I didn’t know anyone. Luckily, a woman greeted me right away and said, ‘Don’t worry — I came to visit this group for the first time just two months ago.’ Her words made me feel so much more relaxed. Everyone took turns talking about their week, and I even shared a little story about my commute. It wasn’t perfect English, but nobody judged me. I’m already thinking about coming back next week.

오늘 집 근처 영어 회화 모임에 한번 가보기로 했다. 아는 사람이 한 명도 없어서 들어가면서 꽤 긴장했다. 다행히 한 여성이 바로 나를 반겨주며 ‘걱정 마세요 — 저도 딱 두 달 전에 이 모임에 처음 왔거든요’라고 말해줬다. 그 말 한마디에 마음이 한결 편해졌다. 모두 돌아가며 자기 한 주 이야기를 나눴고, 나도 출퇴근 관련 짧은 얘기를 했다. 완벽한 영어는 아니었지만 아무도 뭐라 하지 않았다. 벌써 다음 주에 또 오고 싶다는 생각이 든다.
